I’ve been in love with doll since I was a kid but the thing is, that love never have anything to do with playing with them it was always about creating them. While my friends were about play pretend as was building furniture out of cardboard box and sewing them complete wardrobe. I spent more time creating them the perfect house than anything else. Being poor was a great fuel to my creativity, While other kid had the perfect plastic set, I was happier with my made up bed and top notch fashion line clothing made out of old clothes. I remember once I made a complete rock band on stage with guitar and drums out of toilet paper roll and a stack of pastel colored paper a teacher gave me… Anyhow, that love of creating dolls and characters as never left me and when I saw Lee-Ann paper doll post the first time, I knew they were the perfect fit for Kabostudio. I would recognized Lee-Anne portrait anywhere, her faces have that timeless feel that I love so much and she transformed her portrait into the most exquisite paper dolls with great humour and you can’t help but smile when you look at them. I’m really proud to announce that Lee-Anne has accepted the invitation to teach how she create her paper doll, the infinite possibilities to display them and how to create your own character and accessories. If you have been following me long enough you heard me talk about how I love storytelling in art other artist and mine, how it's almost always the first thing that hooks me on a new artist and how I've been working for years to incorporate that element in my own art. Well if you did not know, now you do :) It's something that I have been focusing a lot in the last year, working mainly with the theme of strong women I search for a way to tell their story by doing more than a simple portrait. Sometimes it's the choice of a color palette that will completely change the mood of similar paintings. Another way I love to explore in my storytelling is creating what I call totem portrait, sometimes the animal is a companion sometimes it becomes part of the portrait like an anamorphosis. And that's what I want to explore with you in my class for Paint your Heart and Soul 2018. To give you an idea here's a few examples of some I did in the past. For my second lesson, I want to share with you my technique to create colorful and realistic skin tone and how black and white photo reference can be one of your best friends to achieve that. I'm not sure yet which animal will emerge, would it be a lady swan, an owl enchantress, a she-wolf, or a more feline temptress? Intrigue?
